Summerfield resident, Gwen J. turned 100 on Sunday, October 20, 2019. To celebrate, her family gathered for a luncheon on Saturday, October 19th. Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren traveled even from great distances (such as Arkansas and Hawaii) so they could be with Gwen to celebrate. They served over 160 family members at the luncheon!
At the end of the luncheon, Gwen played her cello in a trio with Summerfield residents Ellen A. (piano) and Ellen R. (violin). It was a wonderful way to celebrate her life by continuing to do something she loves, playing music. Family was so happy to be with Gwen. She is loved by all.
In the evening, family and friends visited with Gwen at an open house. It was very well attended and Gwen loved visiting with all her loved ones.
For her actual birthday, Sunday the 20th, Gwen had another celebration at one of her granddaughter’s house.
Gwen is grateful for her 68 years of marriage with her husband, Walden. After he retired, Gwen and Walden spent 30 years doing everything together until he passed away six years ago. Gwen says in her 100 years of life, the most important thing to her was having her nine children. Being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was a perfect way to celebrate her 100th birthday.
