Hogs N Dogs BBQ in Assisted Living Utah County

Summerfield Retirement Community and Assisted Living Utah County loves to have parties with our residents and their families!  Our annual Hogs N Dogs Barbecue is a motorcycle show and summer barbecue for our residents to enjoy with their families.  This is our 8th year putting on this fun event!

A.B.A.T.E. of Utah, Utah County chapter brought their motorcycles to display for the residents and their families.  The residents got to vote on their favorite motorcycles, and the winning motorcycle received the “Resident’s Choice Grand Prize” donated by MCR Recycling, Ocean Beauty Seafood, and Bintz Restaurant Supply.

Diamond Rental provided tables and chairs, and Alsco Linens provided the linens to seat all of our residents and their families.  Our maintenance man, Richard also did a wonderful job setting up canopies between our car ports so we had lots of shade on the warm summer day!  The activities staff did a great job decorating with motorcycle balloons, pennant banners, and fun vintage oil can centerpieces.  We estimate we had nearly 400 guests!

Chef Roger and the kitchen staff were working hard all week to prepare the food.  We had delicious hamburgers, hot dogs, and brats.  It was served with potato salad, fruit, veggies, chips, cookies, and cupcakes.  Thank you to those who donated food such as Lorentz Leis from Nicholas & Co., Red Rock Pharmacy, Swire Coca Cola, Sysco Intermountain, Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, and Red Rock Medical Supply.

We had fun games and activities: balloon animals, face painting, fake tattoo parlor, and spin the wheel game.  Thank you to Ashley Alvarez (Dimpledee the Clown) for donating her time for the face painting and thank you to April Wilkey from Sundberg Olpin Mortuary for donating prizes for the spin the wheel game.

One of the resident’s favorite parts of the Hogs N Dogs BBQ is the opportunity to win a prize from the resident raffle!  All of the residents present at the Hogs N Dogs BBQ are entered to win one of many prizes donated by our wonderful sponsors.

Special thanks to Envision Home Health & Hospice, Orem Floral, Heather Jarvis from the Summerfield Beauty Salon, and Sundberg Olpin Mortuary for donating several gifts for the resident raffle.  Thanks to the home health and hospice companies who donated to the resident raffle: Utah HHH, First Choice, Canyons, Elevation, and Hearts for Hospice.  Also thanks to Red Rock Medical Supply, Berg Mortuary, Premier Funeral Services, Say-it-in-Flowers, Pointe Meadows Rehabilitation, Orchard Park Rehabilitation, and Fyzical.  Say-it-in-Flowers also donated carnations and poems they handed to each of the residents at the end of the party.

Of course a HUGE thank you to all the resident’s family and friends who came to spend time with their loved ones at this amazing event.  Even more than winning a prize in the resident raffle, the residents LOVE spending time with their loved ones.  After all, family and friends are the most important treasure we gain through the years.
